Paper presents an objective picture of huge development within the second half of 20th century in methods of agrophage control such as destroying and removing their focus, using strongly poisonous inorganic substances as pesticides, biological methods of pests' control as well as weak, toxic chemicals used in low doses. The latest genetic engineering achievements applied to plant protection were also included. This does not mean that we can entirely abandon the chemicals. They will be still necessary, particularly in the periods of mass, unpredictable occurrence of diseases and pests, e.g. resistant to transgenic plants. Only the chemicals friendly to environment and safe for humans should be taken into consideration when controlling of agrophages.
