W wybranych śniadaniowych produktach zbożowych (nestle, müsli) i ziemniaczanych (chipsy) oznaczono zawartość kobaltu i niklu, metodą absorpcyjnej spektrometrii atomowej. Próbki po spaleniu w tyglach kwarcowych nad płomieniem palnika mineralizowano w piecu muflowym w temp. 450°C a jony pierwiastków przeprowadzono w połączenia chelatowe z APDC ( 1-pirolidynokarboditionian amonu) i wyekstrahowano do fazy organicznej MIBK (4-metylopentan-2-on).

Cereal and potato breakfast products were studied for their cobalt and nickel contents by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). These elements are necessary for proper functioning and development of human organism, they are cofactors of numerous enzymes and anti-oxidants but, in execessive quantities, they are toxic. Cobalt, a very important cofactor of vitamin B12, was found in greatest content in cereal products with nuts. Higher contents of nickel were detected in nestle flakes with additives, due to high content of Ni in the additives. Execessive levels of the studied elements (and of nickel, which in excessive quantities causes allergy by histamine activation) were not detected in any of the studied products or product series. The products are safe and do not bring any danger to consumers health (including children and youths).
