In 1994, samples of eggs were collected from 235 village hens and 220 intensive rearing hens in 47 regions of Poland. Levels of organochlorine pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) were determined by capillary gas chromatography. DDT and its metabolites were detected in all test eggs. Significantly higher concentrations of total DDT (x - 0,530 mg/kg of fat) were found in eggs of village hens compared with those detected in eggs from intensive rearing hens (x - 0,100 mg/kg of fat).
