The authors described a case of gizzard erosion (GE) in defective embryos and baby chickens. Eggs came from normal hens of the Astra 5 breed with no pathological symptoms. Egg laying was conformable to the norm and hatchability was reduced by about 6—10% during a whole period of production. After hatch rejections contained an increased number of malformed and malpositioned embryos. In the corneous membrane of proventriculus focuses of necrosis and erosions along with hemorrhages and infiltration with mononuclear cells, mainly lymphoid cells, macrophages and heterophils were noted. In damaged sites intranuclear basophilic inclusion bodies were present.
