A review of current literature concerning winter triticale cultivation was presented. The role of agronomical factors affecting grain yield and its components under precise field experiments were discussed. It was stated that winter triticale yielding depended mostly on the term of sowing, kind of forecrop, nitrogen fertilization dose and timing and herbicide application. However the response to increasing plant density above 400 grain/m², growth regulator and fungicide application was relatively small. The triticale was grown after ear-cereal forecrops on more than 50% area. For that reason it is very important for plant breeders to improve the root-rot disease resistance of triticale. In the light of presented paper, the winter triticale seems to be a crop tobe grown under low-input management and could be recommended for wider growing in sustainable farming systems.
