The work presents the changes in ornamental plant production under cover in, Holland. Under the circumstances of the rising competition of flowers from countries with a warmer climate and increasing maintenance costs, costs of production means and wages compared to flower prices Holland has for many years been the greatest world producer and exporter of ornamental plants. It has managed to achieve this not only through flower area increase but mostly through increasing the size of enterprises, reducing production unit cost, increasing productivity per 1 m² of glasshouse and increasing labour productivity by introducing technical, technological and biological innovations and cultivation assortment adjustment to consumer preferences.
