During three subsequent experiments involving Isa Vedette broiler chicks, the effect of substituting corn ground for complete feed upon and yolk sack weight as well as glucose, protein, triglicerides and cholesterol levels in blood plasma were under investigation. It was stated that chick body weight during the first few days of life depended on both the nutritive value of feed and period of alterated feeding. With corn ground substituted for chick starter, the yolk sack absorption was slower and related to the period of corn feeding. In the blood plasma of chicks fed initially with corn ground, only the levels of glucose, triglicerides and cholesterol were higher, compared to those of birds given complete feed.
