The aim of the studies was to evaluate the extensiveness and intensity of T. hydatigena and E. granulosis invasion and analyse their localization in the liver of pigs. 2500 livers were examined in the Olsztyn abattoir in 1994. In 129 (5.16%) cases tapeworm larvae were found. In 82.17% of cases 1-3 larvae were found in the liver, while in 17.83% more than 3 larvae were noted. In 52.71% of livers larvae were localized in the left hepatic lobe, in 27.13% in the right lobe and in 20.15% they were disseminated in both hepatic lobes. The extensiveness of tapeworm invasion was high and comparable to a mean value estimated for the whole country. Therefore, it is necessary to draw the attention of dog owners to a regular dehelmintization of dogs and to protect pigs against the penetration of tapeworm eggs into piggeries and pig fattening houses.
