Article presents the results of a survey carried out among the managerial staff of Polish cooperatives. The survey focused on the managers' professional qualifications and their educational needs. The data collected indicate that as by now the managerial staff are educated to relatively low level. They also lack the qualifications essential for the people in such positions. Moreover, despite of declared willingness to broaden the scope of specialized knowledge, the management does not take advantage of the available professional literature, mainly periodicals, containing information indispensable while performing the duties. The results indicate also that in the transformation period the need for organizing specialist trainings has been largely neglected. Educational needs of potential participants' were discussed as defined while conducting the study, with reference to the contents and methods of presentation. The detailed requirements and expectations were also included.
