Szczególną uwagę zwraca się ostatnio na efekt cieplarniany, który może zagrozić znacznym obszarom kuli ziemskiej. Jest to zjawisko podwyższania temperatury spowodowane obecnością w atmosferze gazów cieplarnianych. Rola opakowań w gospodarce rynkowej nie powinna ograniczać się jedynie do zapewnienia właściwej ochrony towarów. Duże znaczenie ma projektowanie opakowań przy uwzględnieniu źródeł pochodzenia materiałów opakowaniowych oraz rozwiązań technologicznych minimalizujących emisje gazów cieplarnianych. Ograniczenie emisji tych gazów ma bardzo duże znaczenie.

Special attention has been paid recently to the greenhouse effect which can make a threat for large areas of the earth globe. It is the phenomenon of an increase in temperature caused by the presence of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The role of packaging in market economy should not be limited to the protection of products only. Of great value is packaging design taking into consideration the sources of origin of packaging materials and technological solutions minimizing the emission of greenhouse gases, The reduction of this emission is very important.
