This paper deals with normal values of some serum biochemical parameters in broiler chickens with regard to their age and sex. Studies were carried out every week on clinically healthy broiler chickens of the Vedetta race, both females and males aged 2-7 weeks. In blood serum collected from the birds, levels of total protein, glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, calcium (Ca) and inorganic phosphorus (P) as well as the activity of some enzymes including alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (AP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatine kinase (CK), cholinesterase (ChE) were determined. No differences in the analysed biochemical index values between the females and the males were found. The following indices were found to be age dependent: levels of total protein (increased from 5 weeks of age), triglycerides and AP activity (decreasing with age), CK activity (increased in females from 5 and in males from 6 weeks of age), ChE activity (decreased in females from 6 and in males from 5 weeks of age).
