The aim of this study was an assessment of the relative validity of a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) for dietary intake estimation in a group of female students. The validation of this method was made by comparison of food frequency questionnaire with 24-hour dietary recall. The study involved 90 female university students from Wroclaw. The food frequency questionnaire consisted of 247 questions concerning food intake during the last three months. Every participant completed three 24-hour dietary recall interviews. Energy and nutrient intakes with the daily food rations of the students were estimated. The comparison of nutrients intake in daily food rations estimated by food frequency questionnaire and by 24-hour recall showed that the FFQ yields higher results. Pearson's correlation coefficients between intakes assessed by food frequency questionnaire and reference method were high (0.5 < r < 0.7) for energy, protein, carbohydrate, total fat, saturated fat, monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturated fat, phosphorus, zinc, cooper, vitamin E and vitamin B6.
