The aim of the study was to prove whether the estimation of exogenous creatinine clearance is useful in clinical practice. Experiments were carried out on 12 dogs of various breeds, aged from 2 to 15 years, both male and female. The dogs were divided into three groups: healthy dogs (A), dogs with suspected kidney insufficiency (B) and dogs with diagnosed kidney insufficiency (C). The dogs were given creatinine intravenously. Based on the creatinine elimination rate clearance was determined. The value of clearance was within reference norms in the case of dogs from group A, while it was lowered in dogs from group C. In group B two dogs were found to have clearance within the reference value, proving proper glomerular filtration. The other two dogs in this group had a lowered clearance value confirming the diagnosis of kidney insufficiency. The evaluation of kidney filtration function using exogenous creatinine clearance was confirmed as an efficient and useful method, especially for classification of latent kidney insufficiency in animals.
