Określono poziomy azotanów(III) i (V) w popularnych fitoterapeutykach stosowanych w leczeniu chorób wątroby i dróg żółciowych oraz w ich naparach i odwarach. Oznaczenia wykonywano metodą Griessa-Ilosvay 'a z zastosowaniem kolumny kadmowej. Obliczono również zawartość tych związków w maksymalnej dobowej dawce terapeutycznej.

In this study we determined the content of nitrates (III) and (V) in popular herbal preparations used to treat liver and bile duet diseases. The Griess and Ilosvay spectrophotometry with cadmium column was used. The percentage of extraction in decoctions and infusions was also assessed. Our results show that nitrates (V) content in dried herbs is so high that their intake at maximal therapeutic doses affects ADI. The highest content of nitrates (V) were found in Chelidonium maius (mean value 1005.71 mg KNO3/kg). The content of nitrates (III in the infusions was low and did not offer any health hazard to patients. For decoctions, the content of nitrates (III was higher than 100% of the theoretical value; this was explainable by the reduction of nitrates (V) to nitrate (III during boiling. For decoctions, it is advisable to estimate the level of this compound rather than the percentage of extraction. The high content of nitrates (V) in the popular herbal preparations used to treat liver and bile duet diseases may cause adverse health effect, especially in cases of frequent and prolonged use.
