Environmental pollution and the resultant contamination of food products with heavy metals causes that it is necessery to estimate the quantity of those metals in the daily food ration. The aim of this work has been to determine cadmium and lead content in the daily food rations received by young males during their basic military service. The test food rations supplied on the average 27.5 fig cadmium and 287 fig lead daily. The content of those metals did not exceed the values adopted as Temporary Weekly Intake. Considerable variations of cadmium and lead contents in single diets point to the necessity of continuous monitoring of food contamination with those metals.
