The purpose of the investigation was the application of 3ABC-ELISA to differentiate infected from vaccinated cattle. All samples of sera, collected from healthy, animals were free of antibodies of recombinated 3ABC antigen. Among 430 samples of the sera taken from LPBE and VN seropositive animals from the „ring” vaccination zone and from the group of animals exported from Poland and as a part of the national serological surveillance program for FMD, 100% of the sera have been found negative to polipeptide 3ABC. Out of 82 samples of the sera collected from seropositive animals imported to Poland during 1985-1991, 2 samples (2.5%) gave a positive reaction with non-structural protein 3ABC. The preliminary results have shown that the 3ABC-ELISA can be an ideal tool for FMD eradication campaigns and control programs.
