The aim of the investigation was to evaluate, under field conditions the efficacy of Respisure vaccine in the control of mycoplasmal pneumoniae of swine (MPS). The trials have been performed in two large industrial swine farms (I and S). In both farms Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae infections, confirmed by IF and ELISA, caused serious epidemiological and economical problems. In farm I — 633 piglets have been used for trials. Piglets were divided into A and В groups. Each group was allocated into experimental and control subgroups. Piglets from experimental subgroup A were vaccinated with 2 ml of Respisure vaccine at 1 and 3 weeks of age; piglets from experimental group В were vaccinated at weeks 4 and 7. In the farm S 210 piglets were used. Animals were divided and vaccinated in the same manner as piglets from group A in farm I. The following parameters were measured to evaluate efficacy of immunoprophylaxis: percentage of swine treated, selected and died due to MPS; daily body weight gain (d.b.w.g.) and degree of pathological changes in the lungs of slaughter pigs. Results from experimental and control groups were compared and statistically analyzed. It was stated that the number of animals treated due to MPS in vaccinated groups was 3 times lower than in that control ones; d.b.w.g. in experimental group A was by 28 g and in group В 18.1 g higher than in control; degree of lung lessions was in all experimental groups about twice lower (4.4—6.3) than in the control (7.9—12.7). In conclusion — it was demonstrated that immunoprophylaxis of MPS, with Respisure vaccine, is very effective. It is better to vaccinate pigs at 1 and 3 weeks of age than at weeks 4 and 7.
