Studies were carried out in three selected sheepfolds of different hygienic conditions. The purpose of the work was to assess pH of the mucous membrane and the skin, and microclimate in sheepfolds. It was found that under bad hygienic conditions the pH values of the skin of sheep were higher at approx. 0.7 (pH = 7.4) than those in animals housed under good conditions (pH = 6.7). In contrast no differences were found as to pH values of the mucous membrane. The values of pH of the skin are higher than those of the mucous membrane in a bad sheepfold but in a good one no special alterations were noticed.
