A broad review of publications concerning Mycobacteriacea occurring in fish and humans have been presented. The most recent findings on Mycobacterium marinum, M. fortuitum and M. chelonae, including author’s original findings on M. marinum, were analysed. The characteristics of these bacteria, their pathogenicity and currently used therapeutic methods for mycobacteria affected fish and humans have also been described.
