Paper presented the analysis of changes in water supply and sewage disposal management within rural areas of Poland in 1990-2002. Water pipe networks, sewerage systems and sewage treatment plants were significantly developed and modernised over the period studied. About 9% fanns in 1975 and 89,5% in 2002 were connected to water supply system. In spite of marked improvement in water supply, the tendency to use water sparingly in rural areas causes outflowing wastes to contain increasingly high concentrations of impurities. Though the sewerage network increased sevenfold between 1990 and 2002, only 12,3% of rural population made use of that system in 2002. The number of collecting sewage treattnent plants increased from 19 in 1990 to 1700 in 2002. Household sewage tratment plants were installed on the rural areas with scattered housing. Their number is estimated at about 30000 objects.
