Experiments were conducted on rabbits and guinea-pigs to investigate the irritating and sensitizing action of acetylacetone-dicarbonyl-rhodium (AACRh) and triphenylphoshine being components of rhodium catalyst. AACRh was found to exert a slight irritating action on the rabbits' skin and eye's conjuctiva, being also a medium-strong sensitizer. Triphenylphosphine had no irritative action but caused strong sensitization. Basing upon the findings of this investigation, the authors suggest a complete air-tight sealing of manufacturing processes when rhodium catalyst is used, and the in- admissibility of subjects with allergic predispositions to the work at these processes.
