The studies, conducted in the period of 1972 - 1990, permit the determination of the conditions of potato production at the Bałcyny Agricultural Experimental Station, located about 10 km south-west of Ostróda. The present paper analyzes water deficiencies and excesses during the vegetation seasons, presents the ratio of precipitation to the value of current evapotranspiration, as well as the value of the mean sum of precipitation for the years 1972 - 1990 on particular days, with relation to such sums from the period of 1891 - 1960. It was found that the sums are lower than the sums of the multi-year period, especially in the first half of the year, down to 65 % at the turn of February and March. An attempt was also made at determination of the crop yield with relation to the meteorological conditions, which showed that potato crop yield is strongly affected by meteorological elements characterizing the winter preceding potato cultivation.

Badania, prowadzone w latach 1972 - 1990, pozwalają na określenie warunków produkcji ziemniaka w RZD Bałcyny położonym około 10 km na południowy zachód od Ostródy. W niniejszym opracowaniu przeanalizowano niedobory i nadmiary wodne w okresie wegetacyjnym. Przedstawiono także stosunek opadów do wartości ewapotrenspiracji aktualnej, jak również wielkość średniej sumy opadów lat 1972 - 1990 w poszczególnych dniach w stosunku do sum z przedziału lat 1891 - 1960. Stwierdzono, że sumy te są niższe od sum wielolecia szczególnie w pierwszej połowie roku, do 655 na przełomie lutego i marca. Podjęto również próbę określenia wielkości plonu w zależności od warunków meteorologicznych, która wykazała, że duży wpływ na wielkość plonu ziemniaka wykazują elementy meteorologiczne charakteryzujące zimę poprzedzającą uprawę ziemniaka.
