Development of the claustrum in the fetal life of pig - morphological research

EN
The aim of this study was to trace the development and maturation process of pig’s claustrum. The research was conducted on the brains of pigs aged 6, 10, 11, 13 and 16 weeks of fetal life as well as on the brains of newborns aged 1 and 9 days. The observations were made with the light microscope. Slides for the light microscope were coloured with cresil violet according to the Klüver-Barrera method. Cuttings from the head, middle and back part of claustrum were selected. The conducted research showed that the most intense development of pig’s claustrum can be observed in fetal brains during the second half of pregnancy. In this period the claustrum starts to take its final shape. Towards the end of pregnancy mature nerve cells equipped with processes begin to appear, while at the earlier stages only processless neuroblasts can be noticed. The conducted research also showed that the claustrum neurogenesis process in pig’s brain is finished a couple of days after the birth.
