Dry cow therapy is the most frequently used method to reduce subclinical mastitis. Its efficacy is estimated in the range of 73-92%. It likewise permits the avoidance of many clinical cases of mastitis between parturition and lactation peak. The purpose of the study was to assess the effectiveness of dry cow therapy with antibiotics and propolis origin preparations during the intensive exposition of udders to new infections. Though a reduction of clinical signs of mastitis could be stated after the application of antibiotics, all signs of mastitis cleared only following propolis administration. In order to increase the health of the udders the total elimination of carrier states is crucial. The studies revealed that half of the infections persisted over the period of examinations in the group treated with antibiotics. Propolis, however, eradicated the majority of the infections during the process of involution. It is concluded that the drug can be administered in dry cows to all quarters of the without any danger for humans.
