Całość badań zrealizowano w dwóch częściach. W pierwszej części pracy - laboratoryjno-eksperymentalnej - scharakteryzowano w zakresie taksonomicznym, patogennym i właściwości immunogennych dwa pierwsze krajowe izolaty wirusa HE.

The research was divided into two parts. The first one - including laboratory work and experiments - enabled to characterize two first domestic HEV isolates from the perspective of taxonomy and their patogenie and immunogenic properties. It was shown that both of the examined isolates (HEV1 and HEV2) are identical, and that they correspond to Aviadenovirus of group II as far as their morphological and physico-chemical properties are concerned. Although the virus in question does not cause clinical symptoms in experimental conditions, it produces histopathological changes in several organs of turkeys. The other part of research - the field one - included serological monitoring of flocks and analysis of epizootic situation, taking into account the influence of infections with HEV on the health state of turkeys and production efficiency. It was shown that HEV is widespread and that it causes considerable losses in turkey rearing by bringing about immunosuppression.
