Pulmonic artery stenosis is one of the most common congenital heart abnormalities in dogs. In most publications it is described as the second highest prevalence. Often pulmonic artery stenosis appears as a valvular stenosis. Clinical signs of the disease appear in the first months of life. The reason for this study was evaluating percutaneus valvuloplasty as a method in the treatment of pulmonic artery stenosis in dogs in Poland. Pulmonic valve stenosis was diagnosed in 10 dogs, but only 6 were qualified for percutaneus valvuloplasty surgery. 3 dogs were excluded because of severe heart and internal organ insufficiency. One dog was excluded because of anomalies of the jugular veins which made the surgery impossible. One dog was excluded because of contrastive radiography findings. In 5 dogs balloon valvuloplasty was done without complications. Following surgery gradient pressure between the right ventricle and pulmonic artery declined from 32% to 62%. Conclusions: Percutaneus balloon valvuloplasty of pulmonic artery is a method of choice in the treatment of pulmonic valve stenosis, alleviating clinical signs and in prolonging survival in dogs. Balloon valvuloplasty performed in the symptomatic phase of the disease prolonged life for a few months.
