Many academic teachers are not learned educationalists and they should make up for this deficiency by self-education. This is important not only in order to improve their teaching methods, but also for them to be able to evaluate the results of the latter in a more assiduous way. The methods of testing student’s knowledge in examinations and their main shortcomings are discussed. Academic textbooks play a leading role in preparing students for examinations. The papers presented at the symposium „Academic Textbook” spanned a wide range of issues in the field of methodology and didactics, including methods of carefully selecting the contents of textbooks.
