This paper raised the question of development possibilities for Polish cereal plant breeding. The problem is based on the values and competitiveness of Polish breeding varieties. Each variety gains a value in accordance to its consumers' expectations. The aim of each breeding variety is to fulfil the consumers' needs and to make a necessary profit. The future of plants breeding affected by many different domains will show a tendency to reduce the breeding cycle, by using micro methods for mass selection, quality assessment and extending variability by the use of biotechnology. The results of analysis indicate that many Polish varieties are undervaluated, thus the domestic varieties are put in unfavourable position in relation to the varieties imported from western firms. Moreover, lack of the market for Polish sowing material as well as insuficient marketing activities make additional impediments detraeting chances of Polish cereal varieties on the market.
