Concentrations of lead, cadmium, zinc and copper in dried fruits were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). The following average values related to dry weight were found for dried edible fruits: lead from 0.098 ppm (date) to 0.313 ppm (prune), cadmium from 0.014 ppm (apricot) to 0.031 ppm (apple), zinc from 3.88 ppm (raisins) to 7.95 ppm (date), copper from 2.97 ppm (apple) to 6.24 ppm (raisins); for dried medicinal fruits: lead from 0.198 ppm (black currant) to 0.583 ppm (haw), cadmium from 0.024 ppm (black currant) to 0.044 ppm (haw), zinc from 7.35 ppm (sloe plum) to 18.13 ppm (elder-berry), and copper from 3.62 ppm (black currant) to 6.85 (elder-berry). Our results are in general comparable with the literature data. The concentrations of all test elements were found to remain within the limits specified by relevant standards.
