The antibiotic sensitivity of bacteria isolated - during 1994-1996 - from lungs was determined for: 136 strains of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae; 302 strains of Pasteurella multocida; 237 strains of Streptococcus suis; 228 strains of Salmonella sp., as well as 723 strains of E. coli to tetracycline, oxytetracycline, benzylpenicillin, amoxycillin, streptomycin, tylosin, lincospectin, tiamulin and enrofloxacine. Biological materials used for analysis were collected from different regions of Poland. The results of the study indicated that more than 95% of A. pleuropneumoniae isolates were sensitive or moderately sensitive to tiamuline and amoxycyline. More than 30% of these isolates were resistant to streptomycin and tylosine. Over 90% of P. multocida isolates were sensitive to amoxycyline, lincospectine, enrofloxacine, penicilline, tetracycline and tiamuline. Approximately 20% of Pm were resistant to streptomycine and tylosine. The analysis showed a relatively high level of resistance among S. suis isolates to tested antibiotics. More than 30% of these bacteria were resistant to oxytetracycline, streptomycine, lincospectine, tetracycline and tiamulin. A relatively low percentage of S. suis strains were resistant to amoxyciline, penicillin and enrofloxacine. A high, increasing level, of resistance to routinely used chemotherapeutics was observed among isolates of Salmonella sp. More than 50% of these strains were resistant to streptomycine, oxytetracycline, tetracycline and tylosine; more than 30% of Salmonellae were resistant to tiamuline. All isolated strains of that genus were sensitive to enrofloxacine. A very high level of resistance was observed among E. coli isolates. More than 60% of isolates were resistant to oxytetracycline, tetracycline, streptomycin and tylosine. A relatively high percentage of E. coli isolates were sensitive to enrofloxacine (84,8%) and lincospectine (77,5%). Increased resistance to different chemotherapeutics was observed among Salmonella sp., Streptococcus sp. and E. coli strains.
