The sheep and cow pasturing in the Tatra Mountains dates back to the 11th -14th centuries. The "cultural grazing" has been implemented in the Tatra National Park, in order to ensure local tradition continuity and to support the semi-natural habitats. Grazing is firstly a process that prevents natural succession, and secondly creates biodiversity and shaping the landscape. Traditional sheep pasturing with milking provide for a variety of quality products. The certification of them must be the main goal of local community. The grants to preserve native breeds and subsidies from the E.U. to support extensive farming system can increase the incomes of the shepherds.
