Among perennial grasses Festuca arundinacea Schreb. has the greatest ability to persist under wide range of climatic and soil conditions. This species is very variable in morphological and physiological characters, has strong root system and is resistant to periodical water deficient in soil. Tall fescue responds well to high nitrogen applications, reaching 100 kg ha⁻¹ Polish varieties of tall fescue shows wide range of response to nitrogen fertilizers and differ in earliness and regrowth energy. Variety Rahela is the most suitable for reclamation of soilless and disturbed lands for its high regrowth energy and positive response to high nitrogen applications. Thus, this variety can be sown on soils fertilized with condensed municipal sewage.
