The aim of this study was to examine the effect of dietary supplementation with the yeast extract Saccharomyces cerevisiae on the growth performance of turkeys. Big-6 male turkeys were fed a mixture without any feed additives (control group), with an addition of yeast extract Saccharomyces cerevisiae (0.5 kg/t) containing mannan-oligosaccharides and beta-glucans or a combination of yeast extract (0.5 kg/t) with Cygro coccidiostat (5 ppm). Turkeys were reared for 18 weeks to determine the effect of the yeast extract or coccidiostat on performance results, the content of the coccidia oocysts and dry mater in the feces, the moisture of the litter and foot pad of the birds. In comparison with the control group, after 4 weeks the addition of the yeast extract to the mixture increased (P ≤ 0.05) the body weight gain by 6.8%. In the 18 weeks period the body weight gain was higher by 2.5% (P > 0.05). The body weight gain of birds fed the diet with a combination of the yeast extract and coccidiostat Cygro were higher after 4 weeks by 8.7% (P ≤ 0.05), and after 18 weeks by 4.7% (P ≤ 0.01), than in the control group. In both groups of turkeys fed a diet with yeast extract a clear improvement of the Rearing Efficiency Index for 11.0-13.8% (P ≤ 0.05) and a decrease of bird mortality was affirmed. At the ages of 35 and 105 days the greatest amount (P ≤ 0.05) of the dry matter were determined in the feces of turkeys fed the diet with a combination of the yeast extract and coccidiostat Cygro. There was no influence of the yeast extract or coccidiostat Cygro on the coccidia oocysts amount in the feces, litter moisture and the appearance of the birds’ foot pad.
