Oznaczono zawartość magnezu we włosach studentów Akademii Medycznej w Białymstoku oraz wykonano lipidogram w surowicy krwi badanych. Dokonano próby oceny związku pomiędzy poziomem magnezu we włosach, a wybranymi parametrami lipidowymi krwi.

It was assessed whether magnesium content in the organism estimated from its concentration in the hair of the Białystok Medical Academy students was related to lipid metabolism evaluated from blood lipidograms. Total cholesterol, HDL and LDL cholesterol fractions, and triglycerides were determined by reflectometry on a Roche Reflotron apparatus. Hair magnesium was determined by AAS on a Hitachi Z-5000 apparatus after the samples had been incinerated and dissolved in spectrally pure 1 mol/dm3 HNO3. The results were validated by comparing them with those for reference material (hair). Mean magnesium content in the hair of the men was 57.7 µg/g hair, which was lower than the corresponding value for the women, 87.0 µg/g hair. The difference was statistically insignificant. Lipid concentration in blood serum of the examined subjects did not show statistically significant differences between sexes. However, lipid indices were markedly higher in the women. These results indicate that hair magnesium content may be related to lipid metabolism. More experimental evidence is required to confirm that hypothesis.
