Badaniom poddano 1920 próbek pochodzących od 491 świń rzeźnych. Stosując dwie techniki izolacji, wykazano, że jama gębowa świń jest głównym rezerwuarem chorobotwórczych dla ludzi szczepów Yersinia enterocolitica, należących do serotypów 0:3 i 0:9. Wykorzystując cztery testy określające potencjalną chorobotwórczość wyizolowanych szczepów, stwierdzono korelację między wynikami uzyskanymi w tych testach a przynależnością szczepów Yersinia enterocolitica do określonego serotypu.

1920 samples from 491 slaughter pigs have been examined. Two isolation techniques were used. It was shown that pig oral cavity is the main reservoir of pathogenic strains of Yersinia enterocolitica 0:3 and 0:9. Using four tests determining potential pathogenicity of isolated strains, the correlation between the test results and affiliation of Yersinia enterocolitica strains to the particular serotype was proved. The pigs were infected intragastrically and intravenously with pathogenic strains of Yersinia enterocolitica which turned out to be pathogenic in the course of in vivo and in vitro tests. The experimentally infected pigs were found out to be the carriers of Yersinia enterocolitica, and dissemination of infecting strains was observed as well. A bacteriological study of experimentally infected slaughtered pigs showed the affinity between Yersinia enterocolitica and some animal tissues. It was shown that there is a necessity to use at least two tests of bacterial pathogenicity to prove the presence of infection with Yersinia enterocolitica in the case of human beings and animals.
