Basing on 8 years of research, it was found that sugar beets cultivation on light and very light soil is not justified unless there is a possibility of irrigating the fields. The beetroot yields were determined in 75% by the amount of rainfalls and they increased until the rainfalls exceeded 500 mm in the vegetation period. The effectiveness of spray irrigation appeared to be greater than the equal amount of natural rainfall. The effects of nitrogen fertilization with dose in excess of 90 kg N/ha were low and the larger the amount of rainfall was, the lower the effects. The sufficient amount of water was conducive to improving the quality features of sugar beets.
