A group of chloromethanesulfanilides and their N-alkyl- and N-alkoxymethyl derivatives were obtained. These compounds were tested for pesticidal activity using standard screening-test method. A clear relationship was found between phytotoxicity and the length of aliphatic chain and the position of chlorine atoms in aromatic ring. The compounds with two chlorine atoms in phenyl ring (2,4-CL2) and with short aliphatic chain C3, C4 showed the highest activity. Generally N-alkoxymethyl derivatives were more active than others.
