Tramlines may be used in cultivation of cereals, rape and root crops as well as in seed production. They facilitate and simplify mechanized field works. They enable to apply nitrogen and pesticides application throughout the growing season in terms optimal for cultivation measures. Tramlines play an important role in minimizing undesirable effects of soil compaction caused by the wheels of heavy agricultural machinery. The area affected is greatly reduced as compared with a more random application procedure. Potential yield loss resulting from the absence of plants in the tramlines themselves is more than compensated for by better growing conditions created in the rest of field area. Moreover, the border-row plants yield much higher than the plants in compact stand.
