Three groups of growing pigs, 10 in each at an initial weight of 30 kg, were fed during 49 days with full mixtures containing either 10% of beef tallow (group I), rapeseed oil (group II) or soybean oil (group III). Five pigs of each group received additionally dl-alpha-tocopherol acetate at a dose of 100 mg/kg of mixture. Beef tallow supplement (group I) increased the content of total fat and the percentage of saturated fatty acids in the heart as compared to animals fed mixtures either with rapeseed oil (group II) or with soybean oil (group III). The values were 3,42, 2,82 and 2,64% for fat and 38,7, 25,8 and 31,0% for saturated fatty acids in group I, II and III, respectively. Soybean oil containing 53,7 g of linoleic acid/100 g increased the percentage of this acid in the heart and decreased the concentration of cholesterol in blood serum. The content of cholesterol in the heart was unaffected. The addition of vitamin E increased the concentration of alpha-tocopherol from 1,9 to 4,2 mg/L of cerum and from 8,6 to 16,6 mg/kg in the heart but it did not effect the concentration of cholesterol and the composition of fatty acids in the heart.
