The results of investigations concerning the influence of two methods of irrigation on technological and storage value of red beet and carrot, which were carried out in Kruszyn Kraj., near Bydgoszcz, are presented. Apart from significant increase of root yields (double crops), both irrigation methods caused a decrease of dry matter content and an increase of sugarcontent in red beet with drip irrigation, compared to the control (without irrigation). In the case of carrot, irrigation particularly decreased the sugar and carotene content after storage. Natural root loss, after six months storage, did not depend on the water treatment used. Better quality yields were obtained with the use of drip irrigation method.
