The aim of the present study was to examine the influence of a probiotic additive on the biochemical parameters in blood serum of fatteners. Two experiments were conducted with 64 crossbred fatteners, receiving the probiotic additive (experimental groups) instead of growth stimulator AGP (control groups). In experiment I, Toyocerin was employed and in experiment II, Bactocell was used. During the slaughter of the animals blood samples were collected for biochemical tests. Biochemical parameters in blood serum specifying the protein-energy transformations ALB, GLU, BUN, TP, ALP, TRIG, CHOL, HDLC, LDL, VLDL, AST, ALT were slightly differentiated among the groups in both experiments. In experiment II, significantly higher AST (P ≤ 0.01) and ALT (P ≤ 0.05) activity was recorded in the group of fatteners receiving the probiotic additive. Values of the studied biochemical parameters of blood serum, as being comparable in the groups and experiments, indicate the lack of contraindications for alternate application of probiotic additives instead of AGP.
