EN
Embryo implantation in domestic animals is a highly coordinated process requiring synchronized dialogue between maternal and embryonic tissues. Successful implantation depends on two important factors: embryo quality and endometrial receptivity, which are necessary for adhesion, attachment and further placentation. Impaired endometrial receptivity is one of the major reasons for early embryonic mortality in pigs. Therefore, the identification of biological markers of endometrial receptivity may have a prominent clinical as well as economic significance. This review will focus on the crucial events occurring before and during embryo elongation in the uterine lumen and maternal recognition of pregnancy in pigs.
