Results of the studies conducted in the years 1993-1995 in 10 river valleys of Lublin Upland are described in this paper. Main factors influencing significantly an appearance of legumes were moisture content of soil and farmers management. There were confirmed presence of the following legume species in the investigated valleys: Lathyrus pratensis, Lotus comiculatus, Lotus uliginosus, Trifolium pratense, Trifolium repens, Vicia cracca and sometimes also: Medicago lupulina, Trifolium hybridum and Trifolium dubium. Higher content of legumes in the sward and their more numerous appearance were confirmed on the drier mineral soils as against to more wett after boggy soils. They oftener are present on more fertile in P₂O₅, K₂O, Cu and CaCO₃ soils with neutral and alkaline soil reaction.
