An experiment was conducted in 1998-1999 to determine the influence of 3 forecrops of spring barley on its yield and weed infestation with simultaneusly applied simplification in soil tillage. Potatoes, fodder maize and winter wheat were barley forecrops. Modifications in soil tillage involved deep ploughing by means of cultivator supplemented by a subsoiling under spring barley forecrop. Obtained results reveal that in the years when unfavourable weather conditons occur differences in spring barley yield level depending on a forecrop are considerable, whereas applied simplification in soil tillage lead to increased weed infestation and a decrease in yield level as compared to the results achieved with traditional soil tillage.
