The aim of the work was to compare frequency of eating given groups of food in the period preceding pregnancy depending on the level of education and age of women from the county of Zambrów. The research involved 112 women in the first and the second trimester of normal pregnancy who were receiving treatment in gynaecological-obstetric clinic in Private Centre of Health Care “MEDICO” in Zambrów in Podlaskie voivodeship. Respondents included 43 women with higher education (W); 37 women with secondary education (ŚR) and 32 women with vocational secondary education or elementary education (Z/P). Three age scopes have been distinguished on the basis of the age of the respondents: age 18-23 - 39 women; age 24-29 - 42 women; age 30-35 - 31 women. Respondents gave data about frequency of eating given groups of food in the period preceding pregnancy using self-made anonymous questionnaire form. Five categories of were set to evaluate the frequency of eating each group of food, which ranged from “I do not eat it at all” to “I eat it every day”. Each category was attributed with its own rank from 1 to 5. Significant diversity of frequency of eating given groups of food was pronounced, depending on the level of education and age of women in the period preceding pregnancy and at the same time speculations about influence of growth of the level of education and age on frequency of eating groups of food that affected heath of women and their children have not been confirmed.
