On 12 June 1945 the first issue of the Polish veterinary journal Medycyna Weterynaryjna (Veterinary Medicine) was published. The founders of the journal were the professors of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Maria Curie-Sklodowska University which was the first Polish University founded after World War II. The article presents the veterinarians credited with the founding of the journal and the main figures active on the editorial board. The journal is still edited and published in Lublin, i.e. in the place of its foundation. Each monthly issue of the journal consists of 16 printed sheets (12 pages of A4). The journal presents reviews, original papers, discusses professional and scientific problems as well as chronicles various issues and events in veterinary medicine in Poland. Medycyna Weterynaryjna is regarded as the leading journal in the veterinary science and profession in Poland and is covered in Current Contents of ISI and in the similar information journals.
