Seven diluents commonly used for the storage of poultry semen were tested for fertility and hatchability. The best results for both set and fertile eggs were abtained from diluents based on the plasma of cock's semen. Particularly effective are those containing the supplement of buffering salts of sulphonic acid /BBS or MES/. The studies have showed that the determination of semen ability to fertilize by artificial insemination must be accompanied by laboratory evaluation . To choose the optimum diluent for the storage of semen, the storage period of semen, its dilution rate and the reproductive season should be taken into account.
