Experiments have been carried out on 28 sows of the wbp breed during three reproduction cycles. These experiments were to determine if it was better to wean the piglets after 21 /W/ days or 28 /P/ days and what influence on production results would have the use during the whole pregnancy of a mixture containing 12% of raw protein increase during the last month of pregnancy /I/ or the feeding with a low-protein mixture /I/ during the first period of pregnancy and an increase in protein to 16% /II/ during the second period of pregnancy without a change in the level of feeding. Checks were made of changes in body mass of sows at various physiological states, the increase in piglets and the use of fodder. A comparison of the two mixtures containing 12% and 16% of protein has shown that sows receiving a lower protein mixture but of a larger amount during the last month of gestation had a shorter period of barrenness, used less protein and fodder but lost more body mass during lactation. A later weaning /P/ increased the loss of body mass of sows during lactation, prolonged the period of barrenness and increased the use of fodder. Piglets weaned after 28 days were heavier than those weaned after 21 days and the difference in body mass between the groups lasted until the 63 day of life.
