The examinations were carried out on meat of rabbits which had been being given benzylpenicillin for 5 days (doses: 50 000 IU/kg i.m.) and slaughtered after 6 hours since the last injection. Directly after the slaughter penicillin G residues were found in the muscles and kidneys. However only the traces of penicillin residues were detected in the liver. The biological activity of the penicillin residues was observed in the kidneys and muscles for 21 days stored at 2°C and for 90 days at —18°C (tab. 1 and 2). The kind of tissues, temperature and time of storage had a statistically significant effect on the content of penicillin G residues.
