Experiments revealed a high degree of sensitivity of chick tissues to infection with CELO virus. A FAV-1 virus strain administered to 5 days old SPF chick embryos in the sublethal doses propagated in the chorioallantoic membrane, ammion-allantois liquid, liver and alimentary tract. The highest titre, i.e. 10⁸‧⁵⁴ TCID₅₀ was found in the chorioallantoic liquid at day 11 post infection, i.e. at day 16 of embryos life. It was stated that the chorioallantois was the primary site of CELO virus propagation.
